Winemaker Dinner at Sequoia (Placerville)
Madroña Cabernets

June 26, 2009—6:30 PM
$75/person, all inclusive.  RSVP required.

Do you love Cab?  I mean, do you really love Cabernet Sauvignon?  If you do, this is a dinner you cannot miss!

We will be serving selected Cabernet Sauvignons from the past three decades, back to 1987!  (If you think about it, we could have Cab lovers at this dinner younger than the wine they are drinking!)  We pride ourselves on the ageability of our wines, and this is where you can experience what we achieve.

Not many wineries can provide such an opportunity, nor many restaurants thrive on the challenge of so many distinct Cabernets.  This is truly unique!
We hope to see you at Sequoia.

Soundbites
June 19th, 2009
6:00 pm

$65/person

RSVP required

If you haven’t had a chance to experience Madroña’s Soundbites with the Sacramento Philharmonic, this is the time.  Not only does our winery have fantastic acoustics (totally unbeknownst to us), but this is an opportunity to really get up close and personal with classical music.  Limited to 40 people, one can lose himself in the elegance of the atmosphere and the soothing ambiance of the viola, harp and flute.

To make this even more special, we are releasing our first Black Label Cabernet Franc, ever!  If you liked the 2006 Cabernet Franc, you’ll love the 2006 Black Label Cabernet Franc.  This is one big, dense wine, showcasing the elegance of Cabernet Franc while always letting you know who’s in control.  With only 24 cases made (one barrel), this wine is very special.

HeyDay Café will be preparing four exquisite dishes to pair with our Black Label wines.  Each dish will highlight a different wine:

2007 Black Label Chardonnay

2007 Black Label Riesling

2006 Black Label Cabernet Franc

2005 Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon.

There is a reason why this event is amongst our favorites.  The evenings are surreal and magical, and that is what life is all about.

If you're interested in coming, please call the winery at 530/644-5948

New Releases

If you haven't had a chance to visit the winery lately, you need to come up and sample some of the new releases. The 2008 Dry Riesling is tasting fantastic with an wonderfully bright palate, perfect for the summer season.

And if barbequing is one of your passions, you'll want to taste the new 2006 Shiraz/Cabernet. Full-bodied and rich with an incredible integration of Syrah fruit and Cabernet complexity, this wine is perfect with grilled tri-tip and homemade burgers!

We look forward to seeing you here!

News from the Vineyard

We have just finished flowering in the vineyards, and so far, the set looks very good. The "set" is how many little grape flowers actually turned into grapes. Weather conditions can severly impact the set, with temperature extremes and wet weather being a major concern.

Even though our temperatures have been cool (not cold), and we've had a shower or two, the crop load is looking good. We will now turn our attention to how many clusters of grapes we need to drop onto the ground in order to balance the vines.

Sometimes it seems like baby sitting, but that's farming.

We'll keep you up to date, and keep your fingers crossed for nice, moderate weather!
