Vintage Madroña Wines

Do you have older Madroña wines tucked away in your cellar? Wondering if you should drink them? Well — this is the page for you. This page will continue to be built as we are able to taste through our older wines. Each time, we'll add when we last tasted it, how it was tasting, and how long we think it will continue to age well.

1978 Cabernet Sauvignon
Last Tasted September 2007
The first wine Madroña ever produced! (decanted for 30 minutes prior) Pipe tobacco and spice on the nose, dried currants and hints of herbs, incredible balance and tasting fantastic. ~PB

1983 Merlot
Last Tasted April 2007
This 20-year-old wine boasts great balance, which indicates that it was impeccably balanced when it was made. It has good acid and has kept its color well over the years. Should one be lucky enough to come across a bottle, it would pair beautifully with a classic steak dinner. ~PB

1985 Cabernet Sauvignon
Last Tasted June 2007
Along with a slight herbiness, this wine offers classic black currant, cassis and anise on the nose. With a balanced and elegant palate, sour rye spice and refined tannins are present. This aged Cab is smooth but not silky. It has a nice finish and medium body. Amazingly young.~PB

1995 Cabernet Franc
Last Tasted April 2007
A cherry nose is delivered up front when taking in the aromas of this classic, aged wine. A full body and good palate are quickly present upon tasting the Cabernet Franc. The wine has a distinctive sweet fruit character with a smooth, spice finish. ~PB

1998 Reserve Zinfandel
Last Tasted September 2007
Nose was a little closed with hints of spice and dark fruit. The palate was glorious, rich, with complex berry and cherry characters.~PB

1999 Reserve Syrah
Last Tasted April 2007
Easily the show-stopper for the evening, this Syrah was expected to be a bit gamy. What we found was a fresh, cherry-cola nose with hints of vanilla spice. Perfectly balanced, the wine opened nicely in the glass. Fresh, tree-ripened plums lingered on the palate after a sip or two of this delicate wine. Enjoy! ~PB
